Food Truck Thursdays!

Continuing with our love of food trucks . . . my downtown office looks forward to Food Truck Thursday . . . a day of the week when the food trucks rally over at Gallivan Center downtown. (see, that picture . . . doesn't it look like fun!)

It's a great change of pace from the standard fare. We get our food and enjoy sitting outdoors at the Gallivan Center with cooling fountains and fantastic people watching.  I subscribe to Twitter mainly so I can keep up with food truck locations . . . and, any important updates from People magazine during the day.  After sampling lots of different food for many, many months, I have a few favorites.

Crepes on a Roll offers this delicious Monte Cristo crepe that is ham and cheese wrapped in a crepe and topped with powdered sugar and then dipped in maple syrup.  It might sound like an odd combination, but believe me, it's yummy!  They offer other types of crepes too, but this is one of my faves.

The Better Burger truck offered a turkey burger through the summer that was really good.  Add in some sweet potato fries, and you're all set.  They also offer a burger with cooked bacon bits in the patty . . . hello!

Surefire Pizza was back this week and, boy , was I glad.  This mobile pizza oven has been gone for several weeks and I have missed them.  In about 4 minutes, you get a custom made pizza.  My favorite is the classic Margherita with sumptuous mozzarella cheese, basil and tomato sauce baked onto a thin doughy crust.

One time while I was in line, I looked over at the Chow Truck and who did I see in that line . . . Kristen . . . who works out by the airport.  See . . . we are loving the new food trucks that are finally making their way here.

Just Shoot Me Now

Do you know what's happening on December 1, 2046?  I do.  Thanks to a letter I got in the mail today from my company, I now know that is the day I'm able to retire!  Yes, in 2046 I'll be after to retire after - wait for it - 41 years of service with my company.  If that doesn't brighten a girl's day, I don't know what does.

Come On Down!

Aren't those the best words ever? If you're anything like me, those words bring back fond memories of Bob Barker, spinning the big wheel, Plinko, and the showcase showdown. I have loved The Price is Right and especially Bob Barker, since I was a wee lass. That is the first show I would watch on my fake sick days when I was wrapped up in the snug sack eating a fudgesicle. One of my big regrets in life is that I never made it onto the actual show before dear Bob retired. Drew Carey is just not the same.

So imagine my sheer delight when Kristen found that The Price is Right has a traveling version of the show, and it was traveling into our fair state! I may have squealed in delight while at work. We immediately knew that we had to make shirts to increase our chances of getting on stage, so once that was done, we were ready to go. We grabbed Julie and went to Kingsbury Hall for our big adventure. I have used The Secret to my advantage in the past, so I was really trying to use it that day so one of us could win the showcase showdown. I wanted it bad! We had to register before the show, and when we got there a couple of hours early, we were greeted with this huge line. I could not believe how many people were there, or the hair choices that some of the people made.

We finally made it inside, and it was crazy in there! I think everyone may have been drunk. We got to take pictures down by the stage, but sadly, this is as close as Kristen and I would get to actually being on contestant's row. Doesn't Kristen look like she's ready to bid $1 with her aggressive finger point?

We had a great time, even though we had to watch everyone else get called onstage. Boo to you, Secret! They played all of our favorite games, and when the woman who won the $15,000 showcase showdown barely even registered a smile, I may have died a little inside. But overall, we had a marvelous time, and I may even have to reconsider going on the real show, so I can put The Secret back into my good graces, and win the whole thing!

So Fast You'll Freak

Ever heard of Jimmy John's slogan, "So Fast You'll Freak?" Well, I'm about to really make you freak. My friend caught this great picture, and I had to share.

This, my friends, is a Jimmy John's delivery person. With a sandwich tucked into the back of his shorts! Now, I'm a fan of toasted sandwiches, but if they can't invest in a basket for this guy's bike, then I'm pretty sure that I can't invest in their sandwiches. Like ever again.

Check out the 2x2 stacking...and Grace's face on this Star Wars ride.

Aiden's hair was styled like Alfalfa (the Lil' Rascal) for crazy hair day at school.
Here's Maia touching his surprisingly pointy lock of hair.

A Rant That's 10 Years Too Late

Sometimes I still listen to CDs.*  Mostly in my car.  And I like to get CDs from the library to try new music.  While listening to one of these, I was reminded/filled with disgust over a realization:

I hate hidden tracks.

Like, the artists think it's a reward for "hanging in there" and continuing to listen to the sound of silence for anywhere from seconds to minutes to listen to a track they didn't deem good enough to give its own space on the album.  And what if you actually like the song?  Too bad - you've got to listen to another full song and 2 minutes of silence before you can hear it again.

To me, I feel the same way about hidden tracks as I do about encores. Just play the songs you're going to play and don't make me go through all this pretense to get to another song.

Do you agree with me?  Is this rant 10 years too late since no one even uses CDs anymore?  Does anyone have any beef with cassette tapes?

*To our child readers: CDs are like DVDs only with sound instead of video.

The Circle of Life

Driving between a "Baby on Board" car and a hearse gives one an odd feeling like you're caught in the middle of something.
