Rock and Roll!

I've mentioned before that I think I'm a fancy type of person, but I also apparently have a very rustic, back-woods, W.T. side to me. I love me a good demolition derby, monster truck rally, and recently, the show Man vs. Wild. So imagine my delight when the opportunity presented itself to attend the championship match for this last weekend:

And let me tell you, it did not disappoint! First of all, it was held in a conference room in the Salt Palace. Years ago, I saw Air Supply perform in a similar conference room in Vegas, so I figured it had to be good. Secondly, the outfits consisted of a helmet, and gold lamé! Needless to say, I was jealous. But let's be honest, I was there for the people watching. Sitting in front of me was this handcrafted beauty:

That must have taken hours to scratch in! During halftime, they were shamelessly begging for money to send the team to L.A. Sadly, they had only accumulated $364, which let's be honest, wouldn't get one person to L.A. So they brought out the big guns, which consisted of a random woman in dreadlocks offering to shave her head. I don't know if this earned them any extra money, but where else are you going to see this on a Saturday night? Please see how many circus-like things you can find in this picture:

So now that I've checked this off my list, I can only imagine that becoming a carnie is next.

Apparently it's That Easy

You know those fake credit cards you get in the mail? I hate them with the fire of 1,000 suns. But imagine my surprise when I tried to rip up some junk mail from Stevens-Henager College and found I couldn't tear the envelope because of a plastic card...my new student ID card! Yes, they had taken the trouble to print a Student ID card with a student number, my status listed as "student" (as opposed to...what?), and a checkmark next to "Selected for Tuition Assistance." So apparently I am now enrolled and ready to go! Who knew it was as easy as opening/ripping up my mail?? A certificate in medical assisting, here I come!

Two Lanes . . . Woot! Woot!

After several years of construction, and a need to learn the backroads to get to my lovely home in the Springs, we finally have two lanes each way on Redwood Road . . . and I must say that it is fantastic! It cuts quite a bit of time off of my morning commute now that we have the ability to pass slow cars and trucks. Next, I'm voting for a ferry to get me across Utah Lake and then all my problems would be solved. It's hard to look straight across to 800 North in Orem and realize that to get there, I have to go all the way around. Baby steps . . .

It's a thing of beauty!

No Pride

I don't know what kind of face I'm making here, but I just can't have any pride. The other day, a woman showed up to meet with one of our sales counselors. The sales person she wanted was on the phone, so she came back over to talk to me. She told me that she is going to be teaching classes next door and would I like to come. She gave me her card and said that she teaches people how to empower themselves to get thin. I'm thinking, okay, I'm trying not to be offended here, I don't even know you. She asked if I would come to her class or if she was "just blowing smoke". I said that I was not going to her class. She further dug a hole by saying that she wasn't singling me out (really, because if you hadn't noticed, I'm the only other person sitting here). She said that we all need to lose weight. The woman continued that she personally, needed to lose two pounds (yes, she really said two pounds!). Okay, I officially hate you . . . get away. It was one of those days where I wanted a cheeseburger for lunch. Take that, Suzanne Doyle.

Yep...It Works

I had a near-miss experience today at work. With mace! My coworker (who shall remain nameless) was telling me that as a single lady, I should really get some mace. She just so happened to have a little can in her purse and whipped it out to show me.

I should've known there would be trouble when she was showing me how to take off the safety. All of a sudden, "whoosh!" A large spray of mace into my office. She and I looked at each other for a couple of seconds, and then she goes "We gotta get out of here!"

It's weird how just breathing the mace gets you in your throat and you can't stop coughing. You should've seen all the people in the hallway coughing and they didn't know why!

We fanned it out, got the fumes out, and I was able to go back to work. So all is well! But now that I know how well it works, maybe I'll get me a can or two!

What Happened?

Many mornings I love having a little extra time before or after a morning meeting to cruise through the McD's drive-in for a large Coke (miss that it's no longer $1, but it doesn't stop me) and sometimes a fruit parfait from the Dollar Menu. It's been a while since I've had the parfait and the price has stayed the same, but the size has definitely gotten smaller.
Note how the plastic spoon dwarfs the yogurt cup.

Dur....

I woke up this morning without my alarm! I squinted at the clock, saw that it was :40 after the hour, and got up.
  • I ate breakfast
  • Looked up who got kicked off Dancing With the Stars
  • Read an article on Unmanned Aerial Vehicles on newsweek.com
  • Glanced down at the clock on my laptop
  • What the??

Turns out, I had woken up at 4:40 am - not 5:40 am like I normally do. And I didn't even realize it for 20 minutes! Wanting to take advantage of my time, I promptly went back to bed - then didn't wake up until 20 minutes before I had to leave work! I woke up with my cell phone (alarm clock) clutched in one hand. It was so sad.

Yup, this morning was a bear.
