Sad Story

I opened the fridge last night and said these exact words (because when you live alone you start talking to yourself): "Huh.  It's getting full."  I had just placed my soup container on the fourth shelf down, meaning I had something - wait for it - on almost every shelf!  Take a look for yourself at my "full" fridge.  It seems like just two weeks ago I was grappling for condiment space with three roommates...oh, wait...

PS. If you like this, you should see my freezer - it has two items: a lobster tail and a bag of frozen french fries!

Monday Night Addictions

I love Monday nights . . . I totally look forward new episodes of this

Don't judge!

Sadly . . . only one week left.

Luckily . . . then this show starts up . . . can't wait!

Love These Girls!

Last week I went to the wedding reception of one of our former young women. It's exciting to see them make the choice to be married in the temple. Two down . . . and a few more to go. As I came in, I ran right into the cute Katter girls . . . sisters who made up about half of our little young women's group. It has been a few years and it was fun to catch up and see what Taryn, Andrea and Kaitlyn are up to. They are strong girls who are always so much fun. We got to see Holli there as well. Holli . . . love you!

GWO

Instead of a Girls' Night Out (GNO), the Bird Ladies had ourselves an EXPANDED Girls' Weekend Out (GWO) in sunny St. George this weekend! With the boys taking the kids, and five ladies cruising the Boulevard in a sweet minivan, we were ready to conquer the George. Here are some of the highlights:
  • We ate ourselves silly - beginning with the car ride down and prettymuch not stopping until we got back home on Sunday afternoon. Notes for next time: more M&Ms to peanuts in the trail mix ratio! Additional note: we now know we can eat an entire bag of peanut butter M&Ms in one night.
  • Despite Julie's inability to make the Vulcan sign with her hand, we all enjoyed the movie Star Trek and now have a big crush on Chris Pine.
  • We enjoyed some nice downtime - and people watching - at the pool.
  • We had a Skee-Ball Challenge at the Fiesta Fun Center. Julie is all concentration, hunching down and then not breaking that hunch until the last ball is thrown. Check out the great prizes we picked up! And yes, we were the only adults there without children.

  • We laughed our guts out seeing the comedian Brian Regan at Tuacahn. I can't believe I never knew what "girth units" were before!

  • Julie and Melinda nearly came to blows over our nightly Phase 10 Tourney after Julie insisted Melinda deserved three skips in a row. This is an exact quote from Julie: "Did I stutter? I thought I was clear about what was coming."
  • Kristen was asleep nearly half the trip. I blame the fact that I was sick throughout the trip; Melinda blames the fact that she thinks I'm narcoleptic. I think that's a bit harsh. Lots of people fall asleep every time they get in a car!

  • All in all, we had ourselves a lovely time and hope St. George is ready for us next year! Because we're making this annual...right? Right?

    Stick It

I don't know if I've mentioned, but I have a rather long commute, and find myself checking out my surroundings while I drive. The following has got to stop:

You know what I'm talking about. Dad with his briefcase, Mom with her shopping bag, and little baby with a huge headband and bow on her head. All neatly listed in sequential order. Can someone please explain to me how this started, and why it's suddenly so trendy? Where's the security, people? I want to steal one of these people's identity's, just to teach them a lesson! And come on, the stickers take up the entire back window! How does one parallel park with those things?

Pets even get a shout out as well. Because you know, they're going to see their sticker on the window. But what do you do if a pet passes on? You can't just replace the sticker, because that will throw off the order of the family that has been carefully crafted from tallest to shortest.

And talk about lowering the cool factor. Not only are mini vans difficult to make look snazzy as it is, but with the ridiculous stickers thrown in, it just screams mom jeans.

I have created a petition to stop these stickers, and it is posted on the back window of my car if you'd like to sign it.

    Ole!

Hola Muchachos! (Don't you hate it when someone returns from vacation and proceeds to try to speak in a foreign language?) I recently returned from beautiful Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, with my good friends, Betsy and Kris. And despite Mexico's best efforts to close the border, we were able to return home, and so far aren't exhibiting any signs of the piggy-flu. But for safety sake, I will continue to wear my mask, just because I think it's cute.

I have been dying to get out of the Utah cold, and this trip was just what the doctor ordered. This is what we woke up to every morning:

Our vigorous schedule included a couple of rounds of these (hey, it's happy hour somewhere in the world at 10:00 am, right?):

Followed by a vat of this:

Rounded out by 1 or 2 of these a day:

We also managed to fit in a zip line tour, which was A-mazing. We got to shoosh (sp?) through the air 700 feet up on zip lines that were up to a quarter mile long. All while wearing a jazzy helmet, and being caught by foxy Latin men. Not a bad way to spend a Wednesday. So if you go, take the Canopy tour de los Veranos, and tell Lalo that I miss him and still want to be his pen pal/wife.

As a side note, I would like to send all single, LDS men to Mexico for a crash course on how to flirt. Latin men are always prepared to hit on American women, which we appreciated. All of the men we saw wore fancy shoes all the time, even the cab drivers! They bathe in cologne, which may be a little strong, but at least they're not banking on the fact that we enjoy their natural musk like some of our American friends. And, they will wink at you and tell you they love you at the drop of a hat. Well, we love you too, scary clown on the boardwalk!

We also took a snorkeling trip that took us to some beautiful private beaches. They were only accessible by boat, and it was like we were in a post card. My favorite beach was in Pizota, where only 80 villagers live. We swung in hammocks, had lunch on the beach, and were thisclose to a group of dolphins. So fun.

It was a great time, and I am ready to go on my next trip! Who's with me?

    Moving Day!

Today was moving day to get Kristen all set up in her new home. Congratulations!!!!! (And thanks for the pizza). We are looking forward to movie nights and making other fun memories at your new place.
